Heritage Walk
On Sundays, volunteer guides lead a one hour walk around the historic Tongariro Domain. Two old Armed Constabulary buildings (a courthouse and magazine) and the old Tapuaeharuru Redoubt dating back to 1870 are a feature of the walk. The picturesque Taupo Boat Harbour is another highlight of this loop heritage trail which starts and ends at the museum.
The walk takes place every Sunday at 2pm, weather permitting. And what is more, the walk is 'free' with museum entry. This is a great chance for visitors and Taupo residents alike to go on an easy walk and ask lots of questions about the early days in Taupo.
